Standards of Practice
I- Caring and Responsive Relationships

Reflective Narrative:
Caring and responsive relationships are at the heart of early childhood education. For me, this standard means creating a warm, safe, and respectful environment where children feel supported and valued. When children feel secure, they are more confident to explore, communicate, and learn.
The artifact I chose shows an educator engaging positively with children during play. It represents how educators listen, respond, and build trusting relationships. These interactions help children develop a strong sense of belonging in the classroom.
As a future RECE, I will build strong relationships by being patient, supportive, and attentive to children's emotional needs. I will use active listening, positive guidance, and encouragement to promote children’s well-being and development.
II- Curriculum and Pedagogy

Reflective Narrative:
Curriculum and pedagogy focus on how educators support children’s learning through meaningful, engaging experiences. To me, this standard means planning play-based activities that encourage children to explore, experiment, and build new skills.
The artifact shows children involved in hands-on learning that promotes creativity and discovery. Activities like building, sensory play, and storytelling support children’s cognitive, social, and problem-solving development.
As an RECE, I will observe children’s interests and plan activities that extend their curiosity. I will provide open-ended materials and ask questions that help children think deeply, explore their ideas, and communicate their learning.
III- Safety, Health, and Well-Being

Reflective Narrative:
Safety, health, and well-being are essential parts of early learning environments. This standard means ensuring children are physically safe, emotionally supported, and encouraged to build healthy habits.
The artifact shows children participating in a routine such as handwashing or active outdoor play. These experiences promote independence and help children understand the importance of staying healthy and safe.
As a future RECE, I will create a safe environment by following safety procedures, supervising closely, and teaching healthy habits. I will also support children’s emotional well-being by creating a positive, respectful, and nurturing classroom atmosphere.
IV- Professionalism and Leadership

Reflective Narrative:
Professionalism and leadership involve acting responsibly, ethically, and continuously improving as an educator. This standard means being committed to learning and maintaining high-quality practice.
The artifact I selected represents professional learning and reflection, which are key parts of an educator’s role. Staying informed about current practices helps educators support children effectively.
As an RECE, I will demonstrate professionalism by following ethical guidelines, collaborating with colleagues, and engaging in ongoing professional development to improve my skills and knowledge.
V- Professional Boundaries, Dual Relationships, and Conflicts of Interest

Reflective Narrative:
Maintaining professional boundaries is an important part of working with children and families. This standard means understanding the difference between personal and professional relationships.
The artifact shows respectful communication between educators and families, which helps build positive partnerships while maintaining professionalism.
As an RECE, I will maintain clear boundaries by communicating respectfully, protecting children’s information, and always acting in the best interest of the child.
VI- Confidentiality and Privacy

Reflective Narrative:
Confidentiality and privacy are essential responsibilities in early childhood education. This standard means protecting personal information about children and families and handling records with care.
The artifact represents documentation that must be kept secure and used appropriately. Educators must ensure that records are stored safely and shared only with authorized individuals.
As an RECE, I will respect confidentiality by following policies and procedures related to documentation and privacy. I will make sure children’s information is protected and that families feel confident their information is handled responsibly.
